What usually causes it

Dishes still dirty

A clogged filter, blocked spray arms, a weak circulation pump, or water that isn't hot enough.

Water left in the bottom

A clogged filter or drain hose, a failed drain pump, or a blocked garbage disposal connection.

Leaking

A worn door gasket, a cracked spray arm, loose hose connections, or the wrong detergent causing too many suds.

Not drying

A failed heating element or high-limit thermostat, a vent problem, or no rinse aid.

Won't start

A faulty door latch switch, a failed control board, or a tripped breaker.

Around here

We work on built-in dishwashers of every major brand, including the quiet European units (Bosch and Miele) that are common in remodeled kitchens across Hinsdale, Oak Brook and Naperville, as well as the original builder-grade machines in older homes.

Before the technician arrives

  • Remove and rinse the filter at the bottom of the tub.
  • If the dishwasher drains into a garbage disposal, run the disposal for a few seconds.
  • Run hot water at the kitchen sink before starting the cycle.
  • Use only dishwasher detergent, never dish soap.

Repair or replace?

Dishwashers usually last about 9 to 12 years. Pumps, latches, heating elements and gaskets are common repairs. If the tub itself is cracked or rusted through, replacing is usually better.

Keep it running longer

  • Clean the filter every month.
  • Scrape food off plates but don't pre-rinse too much; detergent needs something to work on.
  • Use rinse aid for better drying.
  • Run a hot empty cycle with dishwasher cleaner every couple of months.

Dishwasher repair questions

Is some water in the bottom normal?

A small amount around the filter is normal on many models. Standing water above the filter after the cycle is not.

Why does my dishwasher smell?

Food trapped in the filter or drain. Clean the filter and run a hot cycle with cleaner.

Do you repair built-in and panel-ready dishwashers?

Yes, including integrated panel-ready models.

Can a dishwasher leak damage my floor?

Yes, slow leaks under the unit can damage flooring and cabinets without being visible. If you see water at the front, call us soon.
